Amaranth flour is produced by grinding seeds from the amaranth plant into a fine powder. It is versatile, full of wholegrain nutrition, and enhances the flavour of many recipes. Naturally gluten-free, it contains all nine essential amino acids and lysine, a protein absent in most grains. Amaranth is a good source of iron, magnesium and phosphorus. It has grown in popularity because it is gluten-free, and many individuals who cannot have gluten cook with this type of flour to optimise its health benefits. Although technically not a grain, amaranth yields a buff-coloured, grain-like flour that is usually described as nutty, earthy and peppery. Try substituting with amaranth the next time you make pancakes, scones and cinnamon bread for a protein-packed and nutritious alternative!

Meet The Supplier
Pure Food Essentials was born out of a passion for Turmeric. Growing this spice organically on their Sunshine Coast hinterland property took them to India, the natural home of spices. They are Certified Organic by NASAA (National association of Sustainable Agriculture Australia), and have HACCP (international quality assurance) processes in place. Sourcing high quality spices and whole foods while supporting traditional farmers is an important part of Pure Food Essentials’ ethos. Their suppliers work with farmers to produce and maintain traditional harvests, gain organic certification, and ensure the viability of trade for generations to come.
