Organic Rye Grain
Our organic rye flour is made from stone ground whole grains. Grown and processed in Australia, it has no added preservatives and is non-GMO. Rye flour has a delicious earthy flavour that is more robust than wheat. While finely ground, this flour has more body, and is slightly heavier, than all-purpose flours. Traditionally used for bread making, organic rye flour is also delicious in cakes and biscuits, pastry, pizza and pasta dough.
How to Use
Organic rye flour is wonderful for homemade bread and is favoured by sourdough bakers. Great on its own, delicious with sunflower and caraway seeds or in a fruit & nut loaf, rye can also be combined with other flours such as wheat or quinoa if a lighter loaf is wanted. Rye flour gives cakes and biscuits a full, natural flavour.
Replace up to ½ the plain flour in recipes, or if using all rye flour increase the raising agent slightly. Rye flour makes yummy shortcrust pastry for savoury pies; pizza dough perfect for the wood-fired oven; and earthy wholegrain pasta.
Grown and milled by innovators who care
For over 40 years, Wholegrain Milling Co., lead by the Neale family, have provided Australia’s leading bakers and wholesalers with the very best, locally grown certified organic, sustainable and chemical-free grains and flours.
Sourced from Australia’s eastern states, their grains are planted and harvested by farmers who care about the long-term health of the soil. On reaching them, these grains are then ground using their stone or roller mills to create the finest quality flours for bread lovers everywhere.
Sourcing and transportation
Sourcing and delivering premium locally grown and chemical-free grains to our mill is Wholegrain Milling's highest priority. Their chemical-free mission is only made possible through their respected network of farmers and the integrity of the trucks that transport the grain. They only accept transport direct from harvest by carriers that follow their stringent practices, giving us a 100% guarantee that the grain that leaves the farm is free from synthetic fertilisers and other harmful chemicals commonly found in unregulated storage and transportation.
This product is naturally nut and soy free. Please bear in mind that we do pack a wide range of natural food products on shared equipment including nuts, seeds, grains and cereals. This includes sesame, peanuts, soy and gluten. While we do our best to avoid any kind of cross contamination, this can occasionally occur and any of our products may contain traces of these, unless we have specified the product is otherwise certified.
TWC source this product as Certified Organic (spec sheets available on request). We then pack it down in a yet-to-be-certified organic facility. This means it can't be sold as Certified Organic (just 'Organic'). We're in the process of gaining our very own organic certification and expect this will be complete by mid 2019. It's then that these very same high quality organic products will regain their 'certified' status on the TWC website. Some old labels may say Certified Organic on them. The product is no different whatsoever and the pack down area uses all organic cleaning agents. Clear as mud? ;)
